Cross river state entertainers protests non payment for carnival 2022 activities by Orok Bassey Duke

Amidst the protest that have been happening online over the non payment of entertainers who played active role in the 2022 carnival.
The people affected are musicians who performed at the adjudication points, mc’s, media practitioners, marshals and we even hear that some dancers in various carnival bands have not been paid till date because the bands have not been given their balance.
The issue is sad as some of the affected individuals were already owed outstanding debts in 2019 only for the government to owe them in 2022 till almost time of transition in 2023.

We cannot continue like this and a lot of questions deserve genuine answers from government and their respective representatives as they must understand that they are public servants to the masses who voted their principal into office and he in turn saw them as being worthy to occupy certain sensitive positions.

They must understand that their silence over the cry for payment of entertainers is unacceptably rude, crude and an outright spite on the people that gave in so much to make the government succeed.

We need to know if the government has released the money but someone or group of people are keeping it and who are this people?

We need to understand why guests and foreign entertainers who are invited to grace our carnival are always paid much more and in time with tax payers money while we the tax payers always collect peanuts and have to beg for payment for jobs that we delivered excellently.

We need to understand if the Calabar Carnival brand is actually progressing or retrogressing with this sad development.

The people in government must know that we are in a democratic dispensation and anyone can be held accountable for his time as a public servant even long after he has left office.
I pray that it does not get to that as I am appealing to their conscience to do the needful and pay people for service rendered. Orok Bassey Duke
